This is the first time that the National Palace Museum in Taipei has held an exhibition in the Southern Hemisphere. The New South Wales Art Gallery is the only exhibition venue and the first and only museum to show these extraordinary Chinese cultural relics to local Australian audiences, providing an insight into Chinese art and an opportunity to understand how Chinese art can communicate with the modern world. “Heaven, Earth and Human Being: Taipei National Palace Museum Treasures Exhibition” shows a series of precious collections from the National Palace Museum in Taipei. These exhibits spanned nearly 5000 years of the history of Chinese art from the Neolithic Age to the ninth century. They contain 87 groups of calligraphy, paintings, books, maps, bronzes, porcelain, jade, and woodcarvings. The Chinese culture has long advocated humanity, the philosophical concept of “the unity of nature and man” that coexists harmoniously with nature in the universe. The exhibition consists of five units associated with the heavens and the earth: “Heaven and Earth”, “Season”, “Real Scenery”, “Landscape” and “Humanities”. The “Heaven, Earth and Human Being” Treasures Exhibition selected cultural relics from the National Palace Museum and brought an artistic experience to the Australian audience!
