The Parliament of New South Wales is located in Sydney, the central city of New South Wales. This 200 years old historical building inherits the King George Style, and is the oldest building in Sydney. The Lions Club of Sydney put a lot of effort into organizing the charity dinner in such a historical building, with displays and tapestries of unique designs demonstrating the history of Sydney. The Lions Club International (LCI) is a secular organization founded in 1917 by Chicago businessman Melvin JONES. The Lions motto reads, “We Serve”, and its members are dedicated to making the community a better place to live, work and grow. The Australian Branch was founded in 1947.
The purpose of the charity gala dinner was to raise funds to support Prostate Cancer Research at Sydney University & Discipline of Surgery and for the Australian Red Cross. The money from these auctions would be donated to these two charity groups. Homart Pharmaceuticals Managing Director – Ms. Lynn YEH has for a long time led the company in social welfare and has supported many long-term projects aimed toward this noble cause. Professor Mohamed KHADRA, renowned professor and Head of Surgery of Sydney Medical School spoke at the Gala Dinner, in hopes to help the guests better understand prostate cancer, targeted therapy, and how the technology could help diagnose with the use of MRI and Ultrasound. He also stated the importance of everyone’s help in help in every possible way, be in for support or fund-raising, which would surely help move the diagnosing and treatment forward.
